5th Grade upside Down Drawings

Familiar things do not look the same upside down. We automatically assign a top, bottom, and sides to the things we perceive, and we expect to see things oriented in the usual way - that is, the right side up. For, in upright orientation, we can recognize familiar things, name them, and categorize them by matching what we see with our stored memories and concepts. The exercise of upside-down drawing is to take a line drawing, place it upside down and copy it.

Seventh grade - Divide & Rearrange

The students objective:; Create an artwork - change and adapt to create an entirely new artwork. The students were prompted to create a simple design using a circle that was divided into fifteen shapes. After coloring, they were asked to cut up the shapes and rearrange to for an entirely new work of art. Here a few samples:

7th grade - Divide And Rearrange

The students had to adjust their thinking when asked to create a circle drawing with 15+ shapes inside. The color pencil choices were limited to 5 and after they completed filling in their circles, they were told that they needed to cut out each piece (divide) of their circle design. Once this was completed, the students rearranged the pieces into a new composition, glueing them onto another piece of paper and creating a title for the finished artwork.
